A total of 1164 students, among whom were 96 visually impaired benefitted from 2017 MTN Foundations Scholarship, the director of MTN Foundation, Mr Dennis Okoro, has disclosed.

Okoro, who spoke at the formal presentation of the awards in Owerri on Tuesday, said that each awardee would receive N200,000 yearly till the end of their tertiary education.

According to him, since inception, MTN Foundation has awarded scholarships to a total of 8,454 students valued at about N1.6billion, including 1,289 visually impaired.

Okoro, who also inducted MTN scholarship Alumni, said even after graduation, the scholarship beneficiaries are mentored and exposed to valuable career information.

He reminded the awardees that one of the conditions to continue benefiting from the sheme was to maintain a good academic footing, warning the scholarship will be stopped if they fail to earn good grades.

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Prof Francis Eze, whose institution had the largest number of beneficiaries, commended the MTN Foundation for awarding scholarships to students annually as well as other CSR despite the harsh realities in Nigeria.
