The Administrator, Grace Schools, Gbagada, Mrs Tokunbo Edun has advocated for an increase in scholarship offers to indigent students by corporate organizations and public-spirited individuals to bridge the huge gap in academic learning between the haves and have-nots in the society.

She emphasized that this has become imperative in order to alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged in the country.

According to her, Grace Schools has over the years focused on being a good corporate citizen through its social responsibility initiatives, saying that the school as a brand has deepened its brand equity through various schemes introduced as a reputable institution of learning.

Edun said, “Grace School has been using its CSR initiatives in the education sub-sector to create a positive impact on the society”.

She asserted that the school has a strong focus in contributing its quota to the upliftment of the society where it operates.

“Grace Schools continue to provide an annual educational scholarship to indigent students to enable them to have access to qualitative education regardless of their educational background. This is one area that the school becomes socially responsible by helping the less privileged in the society,” she added.

The scholarship, according to her, is worth over N1million per session, covers tuition, books, uniforms, boarding fees and pocket money and even extends to beneficiary’s university education afterwards.

Speaking further, she stated that over 30 students have benefitted from the awards since its inception in 2004 while over N100 million has been invested in the scheme by the school that covers the tuition, boarding fees, exams fees, books, among uniforms among others for the entire duration of the senior secondary years.

Edun added that the beneficiaries soon after graduation from the school also enjoy the offer as they enrol and secure admission into university through tuition support, accommodation and provision of monthly stipend for the four or five years at the university.

She added: “We also encourage them to do the SAT exams, which is also paid for by us. At least two of them have trough their high SAT scores won places to reputable American universities”.

The renowned educationist stated that the award was instituted in honour of the late founder of the school, Deaconess Grace Bisola Oshinowo, saying it has become an annual exercise in support of the less privileged in the society.

She stated that the gesture has also been extended to public schools within Gbagada environs through the provision of furniture items, books to Gbagada Primary School. This has been a major activity for several years till date. Grace Schools has also been magnanimous powering the school borehole with electricity.

Ajidagan Primary School, Grace School’s next neighbour has also been a major beneficiary of the Corporate Social Initiatives. The School which collapsed last year was reconstructed by Grace Schools and donated play equipment to the school.
