Nigeria's main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the APC led government of President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to satisfactorily defend the withdrawal of troops from Dapchi few weeks before the abduction of 110 girls in the town by Boko Haram insurgents.

Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesperson for PDP challenged the Buhari administration to reveal the person who gave the order for military withdrawal before the abduction: ”They have not given a response that is satisfactory to the majority of Nigerians.

“You and I know that they did not respond to the Dapchi incident immediately. They were even in denial initially. But the issue now is that they have not given a response to our question on why troops were withdrawn before the attacks took place.”

Ologbondiyan said APC had been in office since 2015, but had failed to change the security narrative .

“And as a matter of fact, the question about the withdrawal of troops before the abduction of the girls does not in any way relate to the alleged PDP non-responsiveness to the demands of the Chibok girls.

“Have they not taken responsibility of governance since 2015 and how many of these Chibok girls have they rescued?

“Why are they playing politics with the lives of our daughters? Why are they playing politics with the lives of Nigerians? Was that the promise they made to Nigerians in 2015?” the PDDP spokesman wondered.

The Yobe state governor Ibrahim Gaidam, who is a member APC, had attributed the successful abduction of the girls to the military withdrawal.
He said there was a precedence in 2013 that gave credence to his argument.

“I blame the whole attack on Dapchi on the military and the defence headquarters who withdrew troops from Dapchi. The attack occurred barely a week after the military withdrew the soldiers from there.

“Let me be quoted anywhere, the military must take blame for the attack on Dapchi. The same thing happened in 2013 when the military suddenly removed troops guarding the town and a week later Boko Haram went there to attack the town and the secondary school there killing 29 students,” he reviewed.
