The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Dr Hephzibah Oladebeye, has charged women in technical education to come out strong in the areas of innovation, creativity and invention in their chosen fields.

Oladebeye said this was necessary to bring about social and economic development and leadership education, among others, and as well the actualisation of women’s determination to close the gender gap.

The rector, who spoke during the 2019 Women in Technical Education and Employment Week, with the theme: ‘WITED Woman get set for Innovation’, said the body had many roles to play to actualise its goals.

Oladebeye hailed the body for the theme of the week celebration, which he said indicated the women’s readiness to take action on innovation, inventions and creativity. He said, “Getting set to delve into innovation is a giant step and it deserves to be applauded. Your innovations, creativity, inventions will always make you outstanding. I wish to state that you should let your innovations touch every area of life and let it be positively impacting as it has always been.”

The Coordinator of WITED, Mrs Monisola Olowolaju, who said members would not relent in their efforts toward actualisation of its various activities, canvassed a bigger role for women in innovation.

Olowolaju said, “Historically women have led movements for change at every level and they have been an integral part of that much-desired change politically, economically and socially.

“There are great ideas that can be offered by women in achieving notable innovations. So, giving women a larger role in innovation will be just and fair.”
