The Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric hospital, Yaba, Lagos, Dr Oluwayemi Ogun, has called on the Federal Government to give more attention to learning of Occupational Therapy in medical schools.

Ogun, who spoke at the 13th and 14 convocation of the Federal School of Occupational Therapy, Lagos, said poor attention to the profession had created a serious gap in the medical field.

“What we need to do as individuals in the profession is to make sure our voices are heard. The people in this line of work need to continue to educate the populace and make them see the need for their services in health field,” she said.

Ogun, while congratulating the graduating students, urged them to set out to change the common perception about the profession.

The guest speaker of the event, Dr Olaoye Olumide, advised the students on the need to acquire more knowledge in order to excel in the field.

The Provost of the school, Adewale Koleosho, in an interview with our correspondent said the students had been trained on the challenges facing the profession.

Koleosho lamented that most Nigeria hospitals lack Occupational Therapists and this had recorded lapses in perfecting their patience’s condition, especially in stroke cases.

Eighty-seven students from the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 set graduated from the school.
