Ninety-two graduating students of McPherson University, Ogun State, will on Saturday receive certificates and prizes for successfully completing their first degrees in various disciplines of the school.

Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Adeniyi Agunbiade, who announced this, said 15 students out of the 92 made first-class; 38 had second class, upper division; 31 finished with second class, lower-division; while eight had third class.

He said professor of Political Economy and Entrepreneurship Programme, Pat Utomi will deliver the convocation lecture, titled “Saving Capitalism From The Capitalists.”

He said since inception the university has designed developmental mechanisms to enable it achieve value-added dividends on its operation.

“One of them is brain trust. We instituted a culture of celebrating excellence and creating avenue for healthy academic rivalry among our students. Exceptional abilities in academic performance are recognised. The initiative focuses on students with GPA of 4.5 and above at the end of each session. The features are invitation by the vice-chancellor to sumptuous dinner and a letter of commendation to each of them.

“By the Grace of God, we have a hitch free and flawless adherence to academic calendar approved by Senate. We have recorded rapid processing of results and prompt transmission to parents and guardians within a few days after examinations. We also release certificates to students on graduation day.

“Academic excellence involving many of our younger staff completing their doctoral studies and successfully defending their PhD theses.

Several others are at various stages of their programmes.

In addition, members of staff are sponsored to attend local and international training programmes and conferences in order to enhance their performance and productivity,” Agunbiade stated.
