Students of Ekiti State University, (EKSU), Ekiti, have protested the newly released document containing requirements for their revalidation exercise.

Management of the school recently published list of documents each student will provide as surety to ascertain his studentship status. As contained in the statement, the school demanded that every student must present evidence of payment of school fees covering all academic sessions till date; acceptance fee at the point of admission; faculty levies till the current session; payment of SUG; faculty and departmental association dues for the current session only; and the payment of smart school fee with the exemption of students on industrial training.

However, the students who were displeased with the demand protested the development, urging the school to postpone and expunge some of the required documents for the exercise. They described the president of Students Union Government (SUG), Gbadero Oluwaseyi as incompetent, alleging that he is showing indifference to their plight.

Shortly after the protest, the management issued a memo stating the removal of four documents from the enlisted. They include, evidence of SUG payments, smart school, JAMB admission letter and General studies (GST) and ESC dues.

One of the students, Ifeanyi Neil told The Guardian that the school’s portal had been experiencing technical issues and thus lost student records in the database.

According to Neil, “Some of the documents we were asked to present were already in the cleared database and most of them were credentials from 100-level, which of some of us do not have in our possession.”

Meanwhile, the vice president of SUG, Badmus Adebayo, has, in a statement, lamented: “We have strong belief in the 3Cs of aluta. We have consulted continually to no avail. Series of letters have also been written to the school management about the issues students are facing. Not only on revalidation, but also in all aspects.”

Badmus also stated that protests are not the best intervention or soliciting tools and has advised the students to disregard thoughts of riot because of the dangers therein.
