The management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin City, has suspended social activities on campus following the killing of a 200-level student from the department of environmental management and toxicology last Friday. In a statement by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Micheal Osasuyi the school noted that the decision was to tighten security on campus.

According to a source, the shooting started at about 5:54p.m at twin lecture theatre, leaving one of the students identified as Adesina Moses with a head injury. It was alleged that the shooting was by a rival cult. The deceased was said to have been UNIBEN’s biggest hype man and was respected for his fluency in English and his dexterity as a master of ceremony (MC).

According to a twitter user, Fishfaith, the deceased was still breathing while he was in a pool of blood in the video going viral on social media but gave up at the university’s teaching hospital around 9:00pm.

A student who was present at the scene of the incident, Omy Valentine told the Guardian that they thought it was a firecracker when the first shot was fired. She said: “We heard a shattering from a bottle, everyone had ignored it. Then the first shot was fired and we were thinking it was fire cracker but when we heard the second shot, we knew we had to run.”

It was also gathered that the deceased was at the scene to anchor the carnival, which unfortunately led to his demise.Adeshina graduated from nursing science but came back to #UNIBEN for a second degree in environmental management and toxicology and was in 200-level.
