Provost, Federal College of Education, Technical, (FCET) Akoka, Lagos, Dr. Azeez Ademola has revealed that the college is planning to provide a more spacious site, where the student’s finest works of art will be regularly exhibited.
He said this at the opening ceremony of the 2019 Art Exhibition of the college, themed, “The Giant Stride.”

Some of the artworks exhibited included drawings, paintings, ceramics, and photography.

The exhibition, according to the organisers was designed to showcase the artworks of some of their students and to also appreciate their creativity.

The provost said, “We are proud of what our students have done.

The school is making provisions for a larger space that would permanently serve as an art gallery for exhibitions.”

Head of Department, Education Foundation, Dr Joy Ezeoguine remarked that this is the first exhibition for the degree programmes as it is usually not in the college’s syllabus.

“This is certainly a source of encouragement to the artist and to others, they will be motivated to do more great works.”

Two final year students of the college, Kazeem Mumin, and Yusuf Omotayo, whose artworks were mainly featured and celebrated lamented that getting art supplies is their major challenge.

Mumin who majors in paintings, drawings and photography showcased some of his artworks that depict different stories. An example of one of his drawings, entitled, “Still life,” included drawings of a local stove, lantern and a torch light.

He explained “Nigerians would not need these items if we had constant supply of electricity.”

For Omotayo, who majors in ceramics making from fired clay and drawings showcase a couple of portrait drawings and a number of ceramic items that included cups, vases, saucers among other things.
