While expressing concern over the increased cases of the menace, Mrs. Maryann Adegoke–Mapenzi, child protection advocate, Christianah Fate foundation encouraged victims of sexual abuse to always speak out to serve as a deterrent to others.

“The girl-child is a special gift from God, she deserves all the love and attention and should have equal access to everything like the male child. Report shows girls are more vulnerable while some of them are faced with issues of forced and young marriages in some part of the country.”

Adegoke –Mapenzi urged government to introduce strict policies and implement them in cases of sexual predators and molestation, which is becoming more rampant.

She also enjoined parents to be extra cautious, listen more to their daughters and be mindful of male relatives and staff living or working with them at home.

On her part, Felicia Owolo, Kiddies mirror initiative programme coordinator disclosed that the avenue exposes the girl-child to her rights, as she is taught of her uniqueness, design and rights, develop personal style, planning and time management.

“They are exposed to meet coaches and mentors who share their girl -stories to encourage them to be exceptional in their current and future pursuits.

She noted that the event was in line with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to amplify the voice of the girl-child, expose them to opportunities, empower them towards building capacities to collaborate favorably, thrive like everyone else and bridge the gender inequality gap in leadership.

“The forum helps them to build confidence to function at the peak of their potentials and develop capacities in every areas of life. It also helps girls find their person and discover their innate potentials.

On her part, the divisional police officer, Lagbansa, Ajah, Adaobi Okeafor represented by Joy Otuh spoke on how the girl-child can stay safe and who to talk to when in danger.
