To address issues of sustainable development, fast-track the attainment of the SDGs, and unleash development in different communities, a Global Affairs and Sustainable development Institute (GASDI was recently established by Osun State University.
The institute is programmed to boost postgraduate teaching, research, and societal growth in all areas of sustainable development. In pursuit of academic innovation, skill-based training and excellence in teaching, research and community service, the school is set to create a pool of entrepreneurs and job creators through a start up scheme for old students.

Vice chancellor of the institution, Prof Labode Popoola, who disclosed this, said the deployment of success-driven techniques has assisted in the growth of the school as well as its move to boost the attainment of SDG goals.

Describing capacity building as imperative to actualising the SDG goals, Prof Olabode said about 150 members of staff were funded to attend conferences, workshops and courses bringing the total number to about 300 in two years.

“We have deployed series of success-driven techniques that have continued to yield positive results. Part of this is the establishment of the Global Affairs and Sustainable development Institute (GASDI), which was approved by the university Senate with a mandate to address issues of sustainable development in unique and creative ways that can fast-track the attainment of the SDGs,” Popoola added.

Speaking on the institution’s convocation, the vice chancellor said about 1,810 graduating students will be conferred with first degrees across the colleges of the university. Out of this number, 49 had first class representing 2.7 per cent. Also, 672 made second class upper; 892 second class lower; 189 third class while eight will be awarded the pass degree.

Vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo will deliver the convocation lecture titled, “Six decades of chequered nationhood: Nigeria still holds the key to Africa’s development,” while some eminent dignitaries will be conferred with honorary degrees.
