• Students decry poor sporting facility
The gymnastic coach of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Mr. Joseph Abuo, has lamented the poor turnout of students in sporting activities.

Abuo who regretted the lack of interest regularly displayed by students, stressed the importance of sporting activities in both their academic and physical well being, adding, “we just want them to turn up for sporting activities if not for the competition but for fitness purpose.”

Speaking on the state of the school’s pitch, the coach pledged that it would soon be upgraded. “The pitch is okay because we use it for playing Dean’s Cup, Vice Chancellor’s Cup and other tournaments. Although the pitch needs a little re-grassing, upgrade of facilities and proper maintenance of equipment and it will be done very soon.”

A 200-level student of geography and planning science and also a team captain, Progress Afolabi, in his response, complained that the school hardly provides sporting materials for training.

“There is low turnout of students to sporting activities because of lack of encouragement from the school management. The school management should wake up to their responsibility and I assure you that it will reawaken students interest.”

A 100-level student of health education, Roseline Adebori, urged the management to facelift the pitch in the interest of their students. “There should be first aid facility in case of injuries. There should also be modern sporting equipment to attract students who want to hone their skills, but they are not available,” she said.

Damilola Olubeba, a student of the department of health education, on her part, observed that the raining season is partly the reason why the school management is yet to repair the bad facilities.

He urged the school management to commence the repair as soon as the rainy season is over.
