Bauchi State Management Board of Special Schools has disclosed that 4,174 students recorded 82 percent success in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO) Examinations between 2002 and 2015.

Acting Chairperson of the Board, Hajiya Lami Buba, stated this while speaking with reporters in Bauchi at the end of examinations of students seeking admission in to the State Special School in all the 20 local government areas of the state.

She said the students scored five credits, including all the core subjects, and gained admission in various tertiary institutions in the country between 2002 and 2015.

Buba said the state government initiated the programmes of special schools as it was unable to meet its quota in tertiary institution in 2000, adding that, when the idea of the special school was introduced, only two percent of secondary school graduates gained admission into the tertiary institution.

“At the moment, I am happy to say that between 2002 to 2015, we registered about 5,059 candidates that sat for WAEC/ NECO examinations and out of the number, 4,174 got five credits and above including Mathematics and English.”

“So, by percentage, 82.5 percent were able to get the requirement of those going into the tertiary institution. If the trend continues like this, we will record further success later in subsequent years”

“The schools faced some challenges that include lack of infrastructures, inadequate staff and teachings facilities.
“Our infrastructures is almost over stretched. Since the inception of the school, additional classrooms were not constructed to add to the existing ones and the pressure to admit more students is increasing everyday.” she said
