Reports by the Nation claimed that the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday, July 1, ordered the forfeiture of ex-First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan’s $8.4 million and N9.2 billion to the federal government.
The reports further claimed that Justice Mojisola Olatoregun held that the money is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Olatoregun granted an application by the EFCC that the money should be permanently forfeited. The judge held that onathan could not prove that the money was legitimately earned.
The money is to be forfeited to the federal government. The EFCC had filed an application before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun.
The judge, however, asked the anti-graft agency to publish the “order in a national newspaper to give any interested party an opportunity to come before the court within 14 days to show cause why the sums should not be permanently forfeited”
