The Imo state government has threatened to mobilise youths in the state against the immediate past governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, in order to recover some of the alleged government properties in his possession.

Speaking on behalf of the state governor, Emeka Ihedioha, the chairman of Imo State Recovery Committee, Jasper Ndubuaku, alleged that Okorocha, his wife and others who worked with him took away 67 vehicles from government house.

Ndubuaku said Ihedioha-led government would not relent to ensure that government property in the hands of past government officials is recovered.

He said the government has exhausted its peaceful approach, stating that the forceful approach has become imperative following the refusal of most of them to willingly submit the property.

He claimed that mechanics have already indicated interest to work with the state, “By the time we move in with about 6,000 people, they wouldn’t have the choice other than to submit them,” The Sun quoted Ndubuaku as saying.

He said the past administration has made things difficult for the incumbent governor and his aids since government vehicles are some of the things that would enable them to effectively carry out their responsibilities.

The chairman of the Recovery Committee alleged that Okorocha took with him all the outrider motorcycles and bulletproof vehicles and other valuables.

He also claimed that Mrs Ugo Nneoma Okorocha took away seven Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) including a bulletproof vehicle.

Others indicted include the former aide de camp to Okorocha, he allegedly took away five Prado SUVs, “The total vehicles missing in the Government House is 67. Even the 150 transformers, bought for rural electrification were all taken away by the former governor.

He said Governor Ihedioha has directed that those who collected government property that was allegedly given to them by Okorocha should return them.

It isn’t true, says Okorocha

Reacting, Okorocha through his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, said the allegation was baseless and untrue describing it as a “blackmail.”

He said Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s administration is riotous in its approach on every issue.

Onwuemeodo said the present PDP-led government in the state should publish whatever they are looking for, “so that we can respond as responsible people. But, they won’t do that because they are only keen on blackmailing the former governor.”

He said Ihediocha rose to power through godfatherism, “Okorocha ignored the elite and godfathers and ran the government of the masses. And that was why he was able to achieve a lot for the state.”

“Ihedioha’s government has no direction,” the media aide to Okorocha stated.
