It sounds really weird but it's true that we put cotton in dead bodies nostrils and ears. Coz the respiration stops and the environment air enters the body and that causes swelling, so to prevent the body from swelling the nose and the ears are covered. One more reason behind this is, in the dead body growth of germs takes place so to prevent the germs to come out the open areas like nostril and ears are covered with cotton.
Plugging a nose with cotton is a common method to stop fluid from leaking out of the nasal cavity by acting like a barrier. I find it very uncommon that I need to use this method.
we put a cotton piece in the nostrils and ears of a dead person 'cos the respiration process stops and furthermore, the air present in the environment enters the body as a result of which the body becomes swollen.
as we know ,in the dead body, the growth of germs takes place .this is also a reason why we put cotton.simply to prevent germs from coming out.
Inside Human body there are so many kinds of microorganisms are present, that could be aerobic (lives in presence of oxygen)or an aerobic(lives in absence of oxygen).

These microorganisms play important role for our survivals, after death respiration does not occurs, but still some environmental air can enter from these sites, they can activate harmful reactions(fermentation)inside human body, hence nose and ears are plugged with cotton so that these liquid/Gas products as well as microorganisms would not spread out from dead body.

We plug cotton in the nostrils of a dead body because the respiration process stops and the air present in the surrounding enters the body, as a result the body gets swollen. We also plug cotton to intercept the germs from coming out from the dead body.
