President Muhammadu Buhari departs Abuja on Thursday, May 29, to attend the summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

According to the presidential aide to Buhari, the 14th session of the Summit is scheduled to hold on Friday, May 31, and will be hosted King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The summit will also be attended by different heads of states and government members of states across the world.

The conference will be conducted under the theme: “Makkah al-Mukarramah Summit: Hand in Hand toward the Future” as it seeks to reposition events in the Islamic world.

President Buhari will be addressing the forum on the need for member countries to work together and fight terrorism and extremism.

On the margins of the summit, the Nigerian leader will hold bilateral meetings with world leaders to promot increased cooperation and collaborati on issues of mutual concern.

The President will also push forward themes that have been at the forefront of his domestic and international priorities, including reviving the Lak Chad Basin, investing in Nigeria to create jobs and financing for developmen
Buhari will also be using the opportunity to talk about the centre of Nigeria’s foreign policy which includes restoring the Lake Chad Basin and the importance of investing in Nigeria’s economy for the creation of jobs and development.

At the side, the president will also be having bilateral meeting with world leaders to create strong collaboration with other countries on the mutual issues.

Buhari will be accompanied on the journey by Governors Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State and Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state.

The rest of the delegation are Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mustapha Suleiman; Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar; Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr Isa Ali Pantamii; and the Chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Abdullahi Mukthar.

It should be noted that Nigeria joined the OIC in 1986 and has held various important positions in the organisations such as the assistant secretary general for economic affairs, among others.

President Buhari is expected back in the country on Sunday, June 2.

Recall that Legit.ng earlier reported Buhari, in compliance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
submitted his assets declaration forms to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

Legit.ng noted that submission of assets declaration form, according to Nigeria's constitution, must precede the president's oath-taking which is slated for Wednesday May 29.
