About 18, 131 students enrolled for 48 programmes at the Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) have been admonished to shun all forms of negative behavior.
The rector, Obafemi Omokungbe who read the riot act at the matriculation ceremony for fresh students enjoined them to avoid all forms of vices, such as vandalism, violence, cultism, drug abuse and absenteeism,

Omokungbe said the academic board ensured compliance with extant regulation in the admission of candidates with respect to the 70: 30 ratio in favour of science, technology and engineering.

According to him, 10, 440 were enrolled for National Diploma (ND) and 7,670 for Higher National Diploma (HND) full time and part time spread across the seven schools and 48 programmes of the college in the sciences, technology, engineering and management.

“Effort was made to admit good quality candidates in view of the highly competitive circumstances of the admission exercise. Thus, all registered students have had a rare privilege of being admitted into the college.”

He urged the students to adjust their lifestyles and activities to align with the dictates of the oath to enable them have a smooth and successful stay on the campus.

“You are to remain focused and avoid any form of distractions that would be detrimental to your goal. You must avoid all forms of negative behavior such as absenteeism, indolence, disobedience to lectures and other staff, vandalism, violence, cultism and drug abuse.

The college has put in place a communication mechanism that would address your challenges, grievances and complaints. Make use of these channels and avoid any negative tendencies of violence, disruptive behavior and disharmony.”

Omokungbe then urged the students to familiarise themselves with all available facilities, college rules and regulation and the officers that have direct involvement on their studies in their various departments.

He also enjoined parents to continue to pray for their children and make their stay on the campus stress free.
