Police are investigating an incident in which a 50-year-old man killed his wife before taking his life by swallowing poison in Kiamumbi estate along Kamiti Road, Nairobi.

Albert Mwangi, who was believed to be in his 50s, left a suicide note before he struck his wife to death with a blunt object and later ingested a poisonous substance.

Police say the man later hanged himself at their home following an alleged prolonged domestic dispute. This was apparently meant to ensure he would die, police believe so.

In a suicide note found in the house and addressed to his four children, Albert painted an image of a sour and rocky marriage with his wife, Milcah Mwangi, a businesswoman in the area and who was in her late 40s.

The suicide note was dated May 21, 2019. Part of the suicide note left by Albert Mwangi.
The man claimed his late wife had been threatening, tormenting and insulting him. He added in the suicide note that the wife hated him.

He also thanked his pastors for trying to reconcile the relationship. Police collected the remains of the two to the mortuary.

This comes in the wake of an incident in which Administration Police officer attached to Nairobi’s Umoja II post shot himself dead under unclear circumstances.

Constable Johnah Kimani Wanjiru’s body was discovered by his fellow officers when they went to his house after they heard a gunshot.

He left behind a suicide note citing many issues that may have contributed to the incident. He used his AK47 rifle to commit suicide. Cases of police committing suicide are on the rise in the country with stress being cited as the main contributing factor.

Female MPs have launched an initiative to educate the public on the need to value lives.

The initiative dubbed “Her Life Matters” comes against the backdrop of recent killings witnessed among partners in relationships, that has drawn concerns across the country.
More than 20 MPs launched the initiative in Kabarnet.

Under the aegis of “Team Embrace”, the women will partner with The Standard Group and other professionals in working on the project that is aimed at turning the national consciousness on killings in relationships.
