As 311 students of the Federal College of Education, Akoka were admitted into degree programmes affiliated to the University of Benin (UNIBEN), the vice chancellor, Prof Osasere Orumwense has admonished them to shun cultism and other vices that may terminate their sojourn in the institution.
Orumwense enjoined the freshers to work hand in hand with the college management and shun acts capable of tarnishing the image of the institution.

In his congratulatory message, the vice chancellor said UNIBEN in affiliation with Federal college of Education (Technical), Akoka has what it takes for the students to face the challenges and the reality of life.

The VC who was represented by Prof Sunday Iyamu urged them to shun vices like: cultism, drug abuse, prostitution, exam malpractice and other immoral activities capable of truncating their stay in the institution.

“You cannot afford to gamble with this rare opportunity to be admitted to the University of Benin. It requires you to be serious with yourselves as well as your studies. You need to be focused, disciplined and owe yourselves, your parents a duty to succeed in your studies.”

He however implored them to be determined, diligent and resilient in the pursuance of their various academic endeavours.

He said, “Our graduates are very competitive in the labour market and excel in postgraduate studies in institutions at home and aboard. We make bold to say that they are trained not only in learning but also in character drawing from the available quantity of human and material resources.”

Orumwense further stated that UNIBEN is very confident and comfortable going into affiliation with the college.

“We are impressed by the human and material facilities and more importantly, the quality assurance practices in the college. I urge you all to work hand in hand with the management to make this institution remain on top.

On his part, Acting provost of the college, Mr. Ephraim Dada congratulated the students for being among the few lucky offered the opportunity of acquiring a degree from the university.

He therefore charged them to be of good conduct, observe laid down rules and regulation, eschew evil and shun associations and groups that will put them on collision path with the college and university authorities.

“Keep away from drugs and other anti-social activities such as cultism, hooliganism and examination malpractice. Endeavour to interact with your fellow students, lecturers and other staff in the college.”
