The Ondo State University of Science and Technology, OSUSTECH, Okitipupa, Ondo State has been shut down.

The university was shut by the institution’s management over the protest embarked upon by the students on Monday morning.

In their large number, the students had shut down activities on the campus as well as barricading the Okitipupa-Igbokoda highway with bonfires over what they termed as outrageous tuition payable in the institution.

It was gathered that the students mostly in their second year were angry over the management’s decision to retain the amount of fee they paid in their first year.

According to one of the students, “what we paid last year was between N150,000 and N200,000 being new students and now that we are in 200 level, the fee should at least be reduced.

” The management is saying we are paying the same amount we paid last year, hence the reason for the protest.”

The Registrar of the University, Felix Akinnusi in a circular made available to DAILY POST announced the closure of the institution.

The circular reads, “Arising from the students’ protest that erupted this morning, the University Senate in consultation with the management had directed that all students should proceed on two (2) weeks mid-semester break with effect from Monday, 29 April 2019.

“Consequently, students are to vacate the university premises and to resume back on Monday, May 13, 2019.”

Recall that on April 24, another state-owned Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA was shut down over issues bothering on school fees.

AAUA sudents had protested against the institution’s ‘No School Fees, No Test/Examination’ policy.
