Job and career choice will depend on the psychology major or degree. Some careers in psychology are specialized and require specific criteria for working in that field. Depending on the major or degree, choices in psychology vary widely, but specialization allows for choices.

The wide variety of specialties is one of the reasons psychology is one of the fastest growing job niches. In addition to the large variety of choices for specialty, there are also many areas in which a psychology degree is useful; these areas include; corrections, schools, research, all types of business/companies, and writing.

A career in psychology can take many directions, and those directions may not sound like a career for a psychology major. Those who already have a graduate degree have more options, and those who are licensed can begin private practices as a psychologist. Entry level jobs for psychology majors provide the experience necessary for getting the most out of an undergraduate degree. Salary is directly related to experience, taking an entry-level position will provide that experience, but the pay is lower. Graduate degrees may require residency or another type of job training experience too; this depends on the degree.

Research your choices and find a company that fits your career choice and offers entry-level positions. If the company you are interested in does not have entry-level positions, look for entry-level jobs that will provide the experience needed to work in the field you are interested in.
