Welcome to today's article which is going to be based on the
Federal Government of Nigeria's Recruitment in each local
government across the federation as well as what applicants
can do to get selected.
It promises to be educative, informative and interactive.
The Special Public Work is a Recruitment initiative set up by
the federal Government of Nigeria to employ youths from all
774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria.
The scheme which is being coordinated by the Federal
Ministry of Labour and Productivity has commenced the
recruitment of 774,000 Nigerian youths across the 774 local
governments in the country.
The purpose of the recruitment is to cushion the effect the
corona Virus pandemic had made different sectors of the
economy suffer.
The successful beneficiaries will be paired with workers on
ground at different Local Government, Ministries and MDAs to
speed up the rate of development which has been halt in the
course of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

road construction, infrastructural development and other
However, the Minister of state for Labour Mr Festus Keyamo
SAN during a joint press conference with the Director General
of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Nadir Ladan
yesterday stated that the government had resolves on the
payment plan for the beneficiaries of the scheme.
Keyamo while rolling out the payment plan made it known that
all Successful beneficiaries will be paid through Their
respective bank account which is attached to a BVN.
The process is important in a bid to avoid fraudulent activities
by the banks or any other party involved in the recruitment and
payment process. No one will be paid twice or by cash.
However, the recruitment exercise in states like Oyo, Kano,
Ogun, Yobe, Nasarawa, Osun and Kogi has been flagged off
since two weeks ago while different state committees
appointed by the Minster have released the application form to
all local government areas in their respective states.
Also, information gathered by Citypost is that selection
process had commenced in Delta state while the Ekiti state
governor had inaugurated the Committee for the job on
Monday and application for the job had started in Ekiti state.
Mr Keyamo further reiterate that President Muhammadu Buhari
(GCFR) had given a clear and sharp directive that t his
programme has to be totally transparent, free of fraud and
corrupt practices. The president made it known that anyone
found wanting will be Prosecuted according to the law.
While answering questions about the sustainability and data
capturing of the beneficiaries during the press conference, the
Minister said himself and the NDE boss will work on
inaugurating the Implementation committee at various level
within the next few days so that no stone will be left unturned.
Meanwhile, all applicants and successful beneficiaries should
note that the SPW scheme is to run for three (3) months and
not like Npower which will run for 1year while Successful
applicants will be paid a sum of 20,000 naira for 3 months
under the scheme.
Furthermore, as announced by the Minister of State for Labour,
the Special Public Works is not meant for people who are
already employed and earning for living. This scheme is best
for people who are fit and who are yet to get any source of
In conclusion, all applicants who have no bank account or BVN
should approach a bank of their choice to get enrolled for the
BVN as no one will be paid by cash except through their
respective bank accounts.
The scheme is said to commence by October 1, 2020.
