I'm purposely writing this article to enlighten people who are
doubting about maize farming.
It's still buffering me till now, the reason why people are
doubting maize farming. I don't know, maybe the negative
information that is in circulation on maize farming is what
making them afraid of investing their money on this business.
Now, as an experienced and professional farmer in the field of
agriculture. I will like to elucidate the ten acres of maize farm
estimation and the profits you will surely gained after
harvesting.
Before proceeding to the main purpose of this article, I want to
make you understand something first. If you are already had
little experience about farming, you will know that any farmer
who is dreaming of having high yield production in his farm
must ridge his/her farmlands. Am saying this because a lots of
farmers who are complaining about low yield production in
their farm as a result of using zero tillage for the process of
their maize farm are many. But if you ridge before planting your
maize you will surely have multiple of what you will see in zero
tillage.
To perform ridging, you must either use tractor machine or
manual labour. But to be on safe side, you are advised to use
tractor machine for better production.
Now, let's go to the estimation on 10 Acres of maize farm and
the profit you surely gained after harvesting.
Please, I want you to read this remaining paragraphs carefully,
so that you will be able to achieve what you are here to learn.
Before anything, you will need to find a fertile, ploughable and
secured land.
When you acquired ten acres of land with all the features
mentioned above
You will now look for a grade and healthy tractor that will
plough/ridge the land for you.
Note that one acre must be ploughed at the rate of 5000 Naira,
which means you will spend 50000 Naira on the ridging/
ploughing.
The next step after ploughing/ridging is getting of good and
early matured seed. Because we have different varieties of
maize seeds that contains:
60 days maturity seed
75 days maturity seed
90 days maturity seed
For instance now, let's say you have choose 75 or 60 days
seed, you will buy it at the rate of 150 Naira per kg, and you
will need 40 kilo for ten acres of land. Which means, 150
multiply by 40 = 6000. Note that the seed must be mixed with
3 sachets of dress force to avoid uprooting by bush lizards
and birds. Add 350 naira per sachet with 6000 naira. Which is
equal to 7050 naira.
That means you will spend seven thousand and fifty naira on
seed.
The following steps is planting. Note that it should be planted
in 2 per hole with 75cm × 25cm by sizes. You will need to
checkout after three weeks, if it was planted by manual labour.
But if it is machine, there is no need to worrying. Unless, if the
seed is not good and normal procedure is not followed.
You will spend, 15,000 naira for the planting. If professional
planters was hired, you won't spend less than that.
After that, you will need get herbicide chemical, both power
and liquid ones.
Atrazine power, 2 sachets, at the rate of 2,400 naira and
systemic or contact herbicides 7 liters, at the rates of 1,300
naira per litre. That means herbicides chemical will cost you
13,900.
The spraying of chemical will cost 1,000 naira per acre. Which
means 10, 000 Naira will paying for the sprayer.
The following steps is fertilizer application, it will be applied
twice before harvesting.
The NPK fertilizer will be applied when the maize reached 3-4
weeks. You will need five bags of NPK fertilizer for that. Each
bag will cost you 8,000.
The second fertilizer will be applied when the maize reached 6
weeks. Note that five bags of urea fertilizer will be use in the
second application, and each bag will cost 10,000 Naira.
But if you feel inconvenient with two times application, you
may mixed with together and apply it at once when the your
maize reached 4-5 weeks. Both fertilizer will cost you 90,000
Naira.
Let cost for fertilizer will be 4,000 naira, because 400 naira will
paying per bag.
On fertilizer application only, you will spend 94,000.
Followed by the weeding. 8 litres of contact herbicide will be
used for the entire farm. And this will cost you 20,400
including workmanship.
If there is no water within the farm, you will need to hire two
strong women to fetching water for the workers at the rates of
2,000 naira per head.
Then wait for another 5-6 weeks for harvest.
Total of expenses,
Ploughing/ridging, 50,000
Seedling, 7,050
Planting, 15,000
Herbicide chemical, 24,800
Fertilizer, 90,000
Workmanship, 41,000
The total of expenses will be, 227,850 Naira.
Now, let's find out what will be the profit after harvest.
If you harvest the maize at fresh. At worst, you will harvest 1
and half pickup motor per acre and it be sell at 30,000 naira
per pickup motor. Which means you will get 15 pickup.
Driver will collect 4,000 per trip, which is equal to 60,000 naira
for transporting the goods to the market.
Harvesters will collect 3,000 per motor, which is equivalent to
45,000
15 multiply by 30,000 = 450,000
60,000 minus 450,000 = 390,000
Expenses, 227,850 minus 390,000 = 152,150
Harvesters, 45,000 minus 152,150 = 107,150
The profit you will earn from ten acres of maize farm is
107,150. If you harvest it at fresh.
But when you harvest when it dried.
You will get one pickup motor per acre, and it will be sell at
60,000 naira.
Then if you multiply 60,000 by 10, it will give you 600,000
naira.
Harvesters will collect 7500 per motor, which is equivalent to
75,000.
75, 000 minus 600,000 = 525,000
4,000 naira will per motor for transportation, which is
equivalent to 40,000
40,000 minus 525,000 = 485,000
Expenses before harvesting, 227,850 minus 485,000 = 257,150.
The profit you will gain from ten acres of maize farm when
you harvest it at dry is 257,150.
That is the beginning and the end of ten acres of maize farm
with profit you will gain from it
