Stakeholders in the education sector have expressed different views over the move by the Federal Government to reopen schools.

In an interview with our correspondent, proprietress, Patricia Private School, Benin City, Mrs Eboka Oloade opined that going by the reported figures by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, it is pointless putting children at risk and encouraging a wider spread of coronavirus

“As a school owner, I don’t want to use my treasured pupils as sacrificial lambs. So it’s expected they stay at home for now. We can’t afford to lose any of our pupils. School business is children centered, everyone of them counts, we can’t open school now if the government has not cleared the air”

Another school owner, Elijah Eragbie of World Class Academy, Ipaja, said; “Howbeit, the same children being protected, are they not having contact with their parents? Aren’t the same parents who go to work and markets and touch their kids when they get back home? The idea of the lockdown has been defeated already.

CEO, Florish-Gate Global Consult Mrs Dideolu Adekogbe also said the government needed to introduce a guideline for resumption.

“Like Ghana came out with guidelines, Nigeria should design checklist for schools, strict supervision for school and support schools, schools may have to start looking inward because of the conditions that will guide the re-opening of schools,” Adekogbe said.
