The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) recently paid a courtesy visit to Yaba College of Technology giving, final approval for the campus radio, YABATECH Radio 89.3FM to commence full operation.
The NBC team led by the zonal director, Dr Chibuike Ogwumike said the visit was to discuss the area of mutual cooperation between the school and NBC.

The Rector, Obafemi Omokungbe who received the team thanked NBC for granting a radio licence to the college. He said the radio would work in line with the regulatory policy of NBC without breaching it.

Later, the NBC team accompanied by director of special duties, Ms BC Amapakabo, head of public relations, J Ndubueze Ejiofor and radio station manager, Mr Abiodun inspected facilities at the station.

The team expressed satisfaction with the facilities on ground, noting that some commercial radio stations did not even have such facilities.

Ejiofor noted that YABATECH radio will serve the modern necessity of keeping the people informed, concentrate on getting into the minds of listeners and nurture it with timely information on developments in all subjects of importance and general interest.

He added that the station would also serve as a training platform for mass communication students in the area of the practical aspect of radio journalism.

The programme of the station would be designed to suit the educated youths and the public without leaving out educational programme, minor politics, entertainment and music behind.

The station was very effective during the 33rd convocation as it broadcast the programme live.

University of Lagos (UNILAG) pioneered campus radio in the country and many other campus radio stations have since been established.
