The Kaduna Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said on Tuesday that it arrested five persons for impersonating candidates at various centres during the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Kaduna.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Orndiir Terzungwe, in a statement, said four of the suspects were from the Sabon-Garri Local Government, Kaduna-North and Kaduna-South Local Government areas of the state.

The remaining suspect, he said, was arrested at a centre in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

He said one of the suspects, Victor Oforbuke, 30 and a Master’s degree holder, was arrested at the Zaria Academy where he posed as Bello Mustafa, 29, who engaged him in the dirty deal for a fee of N20,000.

Terzungwe said, “Similarly, Abdullahi Alkassim Maikano, a 19-year-old who went to sit the exam for Shuaibu Hamza, 29, was arrested together with the candidate in Kaduna-South, while John Michael, 32, collected N15,000 out N20,000 to ‘help’ Sanusi Shehu was also arrested in Kaduna-North.

“The remaining suspect, a female who gave her name as Bilkisu Ojulaye, 17 years, was arrested at the Bethel Baptist Centre in Chikun Local Government Area when she attempted to take the exam for Philomena Ugbe currently at large.”

The spokesman added that “all the five suspects who are being investigated will be charged to court after investigation.”

He quoted the Commandant of the NCDC in the state, Babangida Dutsinma, to have promised to maintain the credibility of the UTME and the safety of officials and candidates throughout the duration of the examination.

The commandant warned candidates to shun exam malpractices or risked imprisonment.
