The Deputy General Manager, CBC EMEA Group, Mrs Oluwafunmike Alawode, has said her firm has donated e-learning facilities to Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Kastina.

In an interview with our correspondent, Alawode said the gesture was made to support the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Isa Funtua, and encourage students from different states in the country to enrol in the university.

She said, “Most universities in the northern states do not make use of innovations and e-learning platforms. They make use of normal classrooms. We made this gesture to encourage other vice-chancellors in the northern states to take the same steps as Funtua. He did not only provide an e-learning platform, he also provided tele-presence which connects the university to people from local universities and international universities.

“The VC’s tenure is coming to an end and so this bold gesture will be added to his list of achievements while he was the VC of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University.”

She added that the firm donated the e-learning platform which comprised modules.

“The first module is the cloud platform where students can store contents and lectures and can create content that will all be in the cloud. These contents can be accessed at any place and time. The students were given mobile devices with an app that connects them to the cloud interface. This app enables the students to collaborate with other students in the university.

“The tele-presence would be used in the smart classroom. The smart classroom contains television and internet service where students would be able to see and communicate with other students from local and international universities and hold lectures with them,” Alawode said.
