The Nasrul-lahi-il-Fathi Society has said education is the solution to the Almajiri menace in the northern part of the country.

The group, who noted its efforts in providing education for the under-privileged in the North, stated that there was a need to remove the children off the streets.

The Vice-Chairman, Anniversary Planning Committee of NASFAT’s 25th anniversary, Bayo Alabidun, said this on Thursday, during a visit to the PUNCH Place on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, as part of events slated for the anniversary with the theme, ‘Building a Better Society’.

Lectures, free medical outreach, a peace walk, empowerment programme, among others, have been scheduled for between March 1 and March 31 to mark the anniversary.

According to Alabidun, the lecture would take place at three different locations which include Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt on March 10, 18 and 25.

He said, “NASFAT at the local level has taken it upon itself to give free education to those that cannot send their children to school and we ensure that rich members are responsible for the payment of the school fees.

“Local branches are responsible for the primary pupils; the zonal level is responsible for the secondary school while the national level is responsible for the university. We have provisions for catching them young and ensuring that they are educated.

“We have branches in the North and presently the president of the group is in talks with the Sultan of Sokoto to join us in the campaign of taking the children off the streets and taking them back to school.

“Our 25th anniversary is a one-month event starting with a prayer for Nigeria and it focuses on peace and security. We have urged our members to do a special prayer to ward off coronavirus from Nigeria and the world at large.”
