Vice-chancellor, Edo University, Iyamho, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, has charged the newly admitted students of the institution to study and work hard, so as to achieve academic excellence.

He gave the charge during the orientation programme for the 2019/2020 academic session, where he listed some of the factors inhibiting young ones from achieving set goals in life.

He urged them not to allow the thought of fear of failure affect their academic sojourn, adding that many students have been discouraged from setting a goal as a result of fear.

Aluyor, who counselled the students to set new goals, encouraged them to work hard towards achieving their various set goals.

He said: “Sometimes, students’ inability to achieve earlier goals is the main reason they desist from attempting to engage in the business of setting new ones. The negative response to goal setting could vary, depending on occasions, from mockery to misunderstanding and from despising to delusion. Ignorance of the principles and practices of setting targets is a major reason why some students detest it. You have to set goals, be studious and work hard.”

Deputy vice-chancellor of the institution, Prof. Monday Omodia, spoke on “Taking pride in your contribution to our future: Town and gown, the university culture and services of a world-class quality of teaching-learning and modeling student’s attitude with environmental factors of community service.”

Also, the institution’s registrar, Isoken, Ogboro, in her presentation, titled, “Know your university,” gave a brief history of the institution and the available channels of communication that can be used by the students.

She reiterated that a university is an institution of higher education and research that awards academic degrees in various disciplines.
