Residents of Iwo and Gbongan towns in Osun State have declared their interest in the possible location of a proposed Federal College of Education.

Making the position of Iwo community known in a statement released in Osogbo, the Senator representing Osun West Senatorial District, Adelere Oriolowo, urged the Federal Government to site the institution in the community.

Arguing that Iwo had not been privileged to host any institution owned by the government, despite its high population, Oriolowo said, “It is only Iwo Federal Constituencies that has not enjoyed both federal presence in terms of educational establishments.

“We have almost 23 State and Federal establishments in Osun, yet none of them is sited in Iwo Federal Constituency. We are only appealing to the Federal Government to help us break this jinx by bringing the proposed Federal College of Education to Iwo.”

Also, the Olufi of Gbongan, Oba Adetoyese Oyeniyi, on behalf of the members of his community, urged the Federal Government to site the proposed institution in Gbongan.

The monarch told journalists in his palace that the fact that Gbongan had been left in the cold had become a source of major concern to the people, despite the strong loyalty and support that they had always been given to the Federal Government from time to time.

Oba Oyeniyi added that the community had already set aside a parcel of land for the institution.
