The VC stated this on Monday at a briefing held to announce the 28th and 29th convocation ceremonies of the institution scheduled to start between Tuesday January 21.

Olatunde also disclosed that the 10,258 graduates included 192 postgraduate diploma, 882 Masters graduates and 124 PhD holders.

He said the forthcoming convocation ceremony would be for graduands produced in the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 academic sessions.

He said, “We will have 8,800 graduates for first degree, 1,198 post graduates with 42 first class degree, 1,436 second class upper, 4,152 second Class Lower, 2,655 third class and 287 pass degree.”

While highlighting the activities scheduled for the event, the VC said the ceremony would take place between Januray 21 and 31, 2020.

He disclosed that Governor Dapo Abiodun would be commissioning the newly constructed Administration and Information Communication Technology buildings on the main campus of the university in Ago-Iwoye.

He added that the Provost of Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria, Prof Olusola Akinrinade, had been invited to deliver the convocation lecture on the theme, “The Integrity challenge in Nigeria’s Higher Education: Towards creating a new normal”.

The VC further disclosed that honorary degrees will be conferred on the Minister for Finance, Budget and National Planning, Hajia Zainab Ahmed; the Olu Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and the President of Brent Mortgage Bank, Major General Sansadeen Awosanya.

Olatunde explained that the conferment is aimed to recognise the honorees’ contributions to the development of the country and the institution.

Speaking on the achievements of his administration, the VC said the institution had got the approval of the Nigeria University Commission for 66 of the 70 programmes offered in the university.

Olatunde also disclosed that the institution was building six modern studios for the Department of Architecture at the Ibogun campus in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

Stressing that his administration had changed the face of the institution from what it used to be in the past, he added, “We have changed the dark days of OOU to something good through discipline. Before I was appointed in May 2017, we had 76 percent of our programmes that enjoyed accreditation. We are running 70 programmes and NUC added three programmes which include nursing, linguistic and music to it.
