The Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Prof Edward Olanipekun, has said that the institution will inaugurate hostels for 6,000 students in October.

Olanipekun, who said his administration would change the face of the university established on a non-residential basis, with the provision of decent accommodation for the students, said this during a New Year programme held on the main campus of the university.

He said, “Apart from this, arrangements have been concluded to provide residential quarters for the principal officers of the university and other staff on campus.

“The intention of this is to ensure that more staff live on campus, with a view to changing the face of the campus and injecting more life into the university, which is almost desolate particularly at nights,” he said.

Olanipekun said the institution would soon sign memoranda of understanding with some genuine investors in order to accelerate the development of its infrastructure and facilities.

The VC, who solicited stakeholders’ support to actualise his dreams for the institution, reminded the gathering that the university had zero tolerance for any form of misconduct, including gender-based violence.

He warned that management of the university would not condone any act of indiscipline, including sexual harassment, among its students and staff, saying that those found culpable would be made to face appropriate sanctions.

Olanipekun added that the central laboratory, which would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, would be opened to members of the university community and the general public soon.

“This will, no doubt, attract researchers from other educational institutions within and outside Ekiti State, thus improving the internally generated revenue of the university”.

He said the institution would make more efforts to partner globally rocognised and world class institutions to put the name of the university on the world map and improve its ranking on the list of acclaimed universities.

“The Advancement and Linkage Directorate will be revitalised for better service delivery. The Directorate will receive adequate support from management to enable it to meet up with its enormous challenges,” he said.

Olanipekun also promised to provide incentives that would improve productivity in research areas that are driven by the needs of the society.
