Stakeholders in the education sector have urged the government to implement policies that would improve the standard of learning across the country.

Citing that the government has brilliant policies, they noted that monitoring and enforcement teams should be put in place to ensure compliance.

Speaking at its Christmas funfair, Head of School, Mind Builders School, Israel Abatan said harsh economic environment and changing policies were affecting the sector.

He added that 90 per cent of private schools have had a drop in its students’ population despite putting in a lot of facilities.

Abatan lamented the high influx of substandard schools offering substandard services at a cheaper rate and some parents ignorantly fall for it.

He said: “The business of education should be left for educationists. I will like to say, starting from the top; the minister of education ought to be a seasoned educationist who has gone through the system. It takes who have gone through the system to know the challenges because the person will have a listening ear. I think it should start with appointing season educationists as ministers and commissioners.”

Abatan said the event was an opportunity for the pupils to have fun, after weeks of academic activities.

Chairperson, planning committee, Elizabeth Olubajo said the event was a form of relaxation for the pupils after 14 weeks of academic work.
