Vice chancellor, Crawford University, Prof. Isaac Ajayi has backed the hate speech bill, stating the need to regulate inappropriate contents posted on online platforms.

Ajayi however condemned the death penalty proposed as punishment. He lamented that social platforms are now being abused and used to defame people.

“A Lot of fake news have been uploaded online and it has led many Nigerians astray. It has helped to create more enmity rather than unity,” he said.He tasked the government to enlighten the public on proper use of internet so as to reduce abuse.

Speaking on unrest that has plagued many institutions, the vice chancellor noted that the university balances its teaching on societal, academic and religious education which help instill discipline and good behavior in the students.“We want to use this medium to call on the government to look into our road which is in a very bad shape. It has really affected student enrollment. Also government should ensure a level playing ground for all schools so we can compete favourably.
