Students of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) have been advised to regularly workout and engage in other fitness activities so as to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

President, students’ union government (SUG), Wisdom Okoko, gave the advice during a fitness programme designed to improve health and reduce hypokinetic diseases amongst students.

The programme organised by the school’s SUG in partnership with Exercise is Medicine (EIM), was also aimed at encouraging the students to adopt exercise as a lifestyle.

While addressing the students on the relevance of exercise, Okoko informed that development is imperative to human existence and his administration is interested in the welfare of the students.

He said: “We are interested in the holistic and total development of students relating to entertainment, health and well-being.”

Speaking on the theme, “Walk fit”, the coordinator of the programme, Laidi Adigun, instructed that physical activities should be carried out in the right propensity, which should follow a rising sequence.

He said: “Exercise is planned, structured and repetitive and it is aimed at improving fitness. So, the routine should follow the ascending order of a low-intensity aerobic exercise so as to revitalise the slumbering muscles and to avoid muscular injuries.”

Assistant coordinator, Jamal Adeshina, on his part, stated, “Regular walk out will improve heart, burn fats which have amassed as a result of sedentary lifestyles, improve flexibility, ensure fitness and ample energy for emergencies. Lastly, to ensure free blood flow.”
