The Kogi State chapter of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) and the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) have rejected the state government’s decision to extend the second term 2018/2019 academic session earlier scheduled to end on Friday April 5 to April 12, 2019.

The unions at a joint press statement issued in Lokoja on Thursday hinged their rejection of the one week extension on current hardship affecting most families, and especially that of teachers in schools who were last paid in October 2018.

The Commissioner for Education in the state, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya, through the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Seidu Adamu, directed all schools in the state to proceed on holiday effect from April 12 instead of April 5.

The Ministry explained that the extension was to cover up for the two mid term breaks during the last general elections.
