Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe Oghara, has matriculated 3,500 students into its National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes for the 2018/2019 academic session.

Speaking during the 17th matriculation ceremony which held at the Mass Communication Department, Rector, Prof. Emmanuel Ogujor congratulated the matriculating students and wished them good luck to finish strong in becoming future drivers of the Nigerian economy.

Prof. Ogujor charged the fresher to be good ambassadors of the Polytechnic and be target oriented, focused as well as consider their studies a primary duty on the campus.

He charged the students to abstain from indulgence in acts of lawlessness and other social vices capable of denting the image of the institution.

The Rector lauded the cordial relationship that exists between the people of Otefe Community and the Polytechnic and urged them to work hard to justify to the confidence reposed in them by the school management just as their parents and guardians look forward to successful completion of their respective courses.

Meanwhile, during the matriculation ceremony, the Rector Prof. Engr Ogujor thanked Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa Governor of Delta State for his listening ear to the Polytechnic, disclosing that more than two years now there is no crisis in the Polytechnic due to the tacit support with his peaceful administration.

He lauded the ingenuity of the state government that led to the introduction of a new course in Conflict and Peace Resolution as a compulsory class for all students.

Speaking further, he restated his vision to transform the polytechnic to become a centre of excellence where students are trained in line with global best practices for sustainable economic growth and industrialization of the state in particular and the country general.

According to him, courses offered by the institution are all fully accredited while three new programmes at the Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes are being considered for Science Laboratory Technology Department including Environmental Biology, Chemistry and Microbiology.

The highpoint of the event was the formal administration of Oath on the matriculating students by the Registrar as the students take a turn to sign the matriculation register.

The Registrar, Dr. Benson Omonode in his words of encouragement to the students charged them to abide by the rules and regulations of the Institution.

In the same vein, Wilberforce Ofotokun, the Polytechnic Public Relations Officer (PRO) lauded the sterling leadership qualities of the Rector, adding that since his assumption of office in March 2017 and in accordance with the SMART Agenda of the Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has turned around the fortunes of the institution.

Ofotokun described the Rector as a man of quintessential courage, vision and a staunch advocate of due process, adding that under his leadership the Institution was ranked best among the institutions in its class of tertiary education by the National Board of Technical.
