Data released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has shown that Lagos State recorded the highest number of candidates registered so far for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

JAMB in the latest edition of its weekly bulletin revealed that registration for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) registration exercise that commenced on Thursday, 10th January, 2019 and expected to end on Thursday, 21st February, 2019 that as at February 15th, Lagos Kaduna and Oyo states recorded 234,259; 99,677 and 80,473 number of candidates respectively.

Other states next to these sets are FCT-Abuja 73,070; Ogun 72,322; Kano 68,996; Rivers 68,388; Plateau 59,296 and Nassarawa 58,631 on the ninth place respectively.

In addition, JAMB in the summary of candidates’ registration by states put the total enrolment figure at 1,681,130 and listed five states with least number on candidates as Yobe 14,762, Sokoto 14,616, Ebonyi 13,542, Kebbi 13,305, and Zamfara states with 6,475 respectively.

However, the Chairman of the Governing Board of JAMB, Dr. Emmanuel Ndukwe, has ruled out the possibility of extending the ongoing UTME registration exercise.

Dr. Ndukwe said: “I do not foresee an extension. We have to stick to the date given to the public. If we start thinking about an extension, it does not portray our seriousness. You can see that some of the places we visited had many systems but fewer candidates made this statement.

“As such, candidates should be mindful of the terminal date. So, I do not foresee any extension in date for registration”.

He, however, stated that if there were cogent reasons for an extension, an approval would be sought by the management for such after the Board might have consulted widely.

Registration for the 2019 UTME is being conducted in 741 Computer Based Test (CBT) Centres across the 36 states of the federation including the Federal capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
