The school of Health Information Management Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Lagos has matriculated 94 students for both Higher National Diploma (HND) and National Diploma (ND) programmes for 2018/2019 academic session.

Chief Medical Director LUTH Prof. Chris Bode, said matriculation confers on the participating candidates, full membership of the institution having fulfilled all entitled to all necessary requirements. However, every matriculated student is entitled to all rights and privileges recognized by the school community. Such rights include, but not limited to inclusion of the students in the school register, obtaining the school identity card, right of access to school facilities, representing the school at different fora, participating in students Union activities.

He said: "On the other hand, as full members of the school community, it is part of your obligations to maintain law and order, pay your school fees and other approved levies, protect the school properties, respect the rights of your fellow students, report any criminal activities to the school authority and refrain from any form of social vices as enunciated in the school byelaws".

"Today, Nigeria and the world at large are infested with so many social vices; and it is also worrisome that our youths have lost virtues of hard work, honesty, punctuality and sense of morality in general. It is an irony that all are happening in a country that has once been described as the most religious country in the world. This being the case, the conclusion one can draw is that most of the agencies of socialization have failed in their duty moulding the character of the young ones. It is in realization of this that the school of health information management, LUTH has chosen to rededicate itself not only to providing training in Health Information Management, but also to mould the character and support staff shall through their exemplary life styles and moral suasion or preachment, take you through rigorous but rewarding moral training."

Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, in LUTH, Prof. Fasanmade Olufemi, stated that the school programmes have been accredited by the relevant agencies; National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBON) respectively, for another five years.

He said: "The school is equally working in partnership with the Department of Community Medicine, College of Medicine, University of Lagos for degree programme in Health Information Management. It is hoped that when the programme is eventually approved, the school of Health Information Management LUTH will serve as a feeder for direct entry into the degree programme".
