The United Nations Children's Emergency Fund says more than 309 communities in Nigeria have freely proclaimed their relinquishment of female genital mutilation in 2018.
The UNICEF Country representative in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Abuja to remember the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, denoted each February 6 yearly.

He noticed that 2016/2017 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey showed some decrease in the rate of FGM in the nation.
