James 4:13-17

BOASTING: AN INSULT TO GOD

“As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil” James 4:16.

Boasting is a product of pride, and the proud is an enemy of God. Pharaoh boasted against God;
God killed him and all his soldiers in one day. Nebuchadnezzar, in his pride thought he owned the world. God reduced him to a beast eating grass in the bush for seven years. Herod, in arrogance took the glory of God; he was eaten up alive by worms. These were powerful people in history who ended up shamefully because of pride. Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples boasted in self-confidence not to deny His Master but fell at the face of challenge.
Today’s passage encourages us to put God first in everything we do. God should be at the centre of our plans because He is the owner of our lives. We should not be like the foolish farmer who put himself at the center of his plan, with no regard to God. He lost everything before the dawn of another day (Luke 12:13-21). Learn to be submissive to the will of God. You and all that you have are God’s property. You should not leave Him out of all your projections in life. Economists end their projections by saying; “all things being equal”. Jesus taught us to pray: “Thy will be done”. Children of God should always end their plans with: “If God wishes”. Recognize his sovereignty over your life and stop boasting.

Birthday Blessing: “Submit to God and be at peace with Him; in this way prosperity will come to you” Job 22:21.

RBT Passage: Genesis 39-41

“There is no even so commonplace but that God is present, leaving you room to recognize or not to recognize Him”. – Fredrick Buchner
