Young Christian Workers (YCW) under the Roman Catholic Church will collaborate with Technical Entrepreneurship and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA) to register YCW as an institution which can be benefiting from TEVETA.

Speaking with the Malawi News Agency (Mana) in Lilongwe Friday, YCW National President, Augustine Mulomore said they thought of collaborating with TEVETA so that they can empower young Christian workers in different skills.

"As you know employment is the biggest challenge in the country among the youth and if we can engage TEVETA it will help impart some skills in the young people that will help them become independent.

"We want to train the youth in entrepreneurship skills so that they can be independent. Once they gain that knowledge, they will be able to do businesses that will make them create their own jobs instead of waiting to get employed," Mulomore said.

According to the YCW President, the partnership will benefit the youth in this country by making them to be creative in resource mobilization in order to achieve financial independence.

He pointed out that the organization has managed to carry out many activities in the calendar such as hosting the East African Conference where they discussed high level employment opportunities and now were looking for alternatives on how best the youth can depend on their own.

"We have made good relationship with TEVATA whereby YCW will be taken on board to better develop their skills so that we can have reproductive youth in the country," he said.

Furthermore, he said UNDP financially supported them during the East Africa Regional leaders training workshop where they also made a presentation on youth and entrepreneurship under the Sustainable Development Goals on youth empowerment.

"This has come at a good time when the youth are struggling to be employed and it will help them share ideas on how to do business and other issues that affect their daily lives," Mulomore said.
