A lecturer at the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, Mr Michael Olopete, who was kidnapped by some hoodlums, has been released.

However, the gang members, who also kidnapped a senior local government worker, Mr Bunmi Falodun, and his wife on Saturday, have contacted the couple’s family, demanding N100m ransom.

Falodun and his wife were kidnapped at Owo-Ikare Expessway, Oba Akoko, in the Akoko North-West Local Government Area of the state, while Olopete, a lecturer at the department of marketing, was kidnapped on Owo-Ipele Road on Saturday.

A source at the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic told our correspondent that Olopete was released on Monday after N5m was paid to the hoodlums.

“They collected N5m,” he said.

Another source close to the Faloduns said, “The abductors have opened negotiation with the family. They demanded N100m, but the family has been negotiating with them.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Femi Joseph, said efforts were on to ensure the release of the victims.

“As the investigation is ongoing, our men are already after the hoodlums and they will soon be arrested,” he added.

Don not get stuck at the well of argument. Let God be your vindicator. Let Him fight your battles. He will vindicate you better than you can vindicate yourself.
