Sidmach Technology has honoured the three students with the best results in the 2017 West Africa Senior School Examination in Lagos State.

Oluwaseun Donye and Mictchel Chuka-Ebene – both of Faith Academy, Gowon Estate clinched the first and second position while Oluwakayode Odukomaiya, of WellSpring College came third.

The students were rewarded with laptops, six months of internet access, and certificates.

Well Spring College, which was producing a third place winner for the second time, also got a certificate.

They were honoured at the annual Information Technology conference organised by the Nigeria Computer Society, Lagos Chapter.

Olukayode who is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the Covenant University, Ota, said the feat was a combined effort of his parents, school and friends.

“I had alot of good friends. We worked hand-in-hand preparing for the examination. Also with the help of my teachers and the spiritual backing and encouragements I got from my parents, the exam was a success. I say thank you to WellSpring College and urge them to keep up the good work,” he said.

His parents who expressed joy over his achievement said he has always been studious and also a lover of football.

“ since primary four, I realised he had strong numeracy skills. During his common entrance exam, the bulk of his training came from me. I also trained him on speed using past question papers. So with that he was able to be timely and he had an outstanding success in the examination” said his mother, Mrs Odukomaiya.

The Principal of the school, Mrs Oluwayemisi Oloriade explained that Olukayode had always maintained good grades at the school, noting that the school has what it takes to excel in academics.

She said her teachers sacrificed their time to give the pupils intensive training in preparation of the examination and paid attention to their individual differences.

Replicating the achievement again, she expressed her gratitude to God, noting that it was a motivation to do more and an evidence of the school’s effort to produce sound pupils.

Oloriade expressed concerns on the yearly average pass mark of the examination.

She said it can be worked upon if pupils are ready to devote more time to study.

“most students are distracted. It takes determination, persistence and harwork for pupils to perform better but how many of them are ready for that?” she asked.
