Brigadier-General Sule Kazaure, director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has tasked serving corps members across the country to develop consciousness to take up leadership roles in the country as they impact lives of Nigerians wherever they are posted to serve.

To this end, the DG tasked them to be good ambassadors of the scheme that has further strengthen the unity of the country in diversity as youths are deployed to all parts of the country outside their respective states of origin.

Brigadier-General Kazaure stated this in Lagos at the Iyana-Ipja temporary orientation camp in continuation of his tour of orientation campgrounds across the country, saying that the scheme has become the cynosure of interest in many other countries across the African continent and beyond.

Represented by the Director, Human Resources and Management, Alhaji Salau Abdulrasak, the NYSC DG urged corps members not to consider the service year as a free period but a time to have a rethink and chart a new beginning preparatory to the attainment of set goals and objective as they attain adulthood.

“Service life is a period to subject yourself to serious thinking and chart a new post-academic life. Don’t complete service year without touching the lives of people in the community where you are posted for Primary Place Assignment (PPA) as well as take up new challenges in skills during the period.

Advising the corps members on safety nets after the camping period he said, “Be wary of people around you and be security conscious about events and happenings around your PPA.

“Don’t take any careless action. For the females don’t board vehicles from unauthorized motor parks along the roads or accept an unsolicited ride without knowing the identity of the person behind the wheels as this is dangerous.

He added: “NYSC wants you to live and succeed with Nigeria and not die. Nowadays evil is everywhere, be watchful of people with devilish intention, don’t accept to drive in vehicles driven by unknown persons as such free ride usually comes with negative repercussions”.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Coordinator, Prince Mohammed Momoh informed the DG about the good conduct of the 2,612 male and female corps members at the camp, saying that among them were 253 foreign trained graduates.

According to him, “There 36 medical doctors, seven trained nurses, 31 pharmacists, five physiotherapists, eight medical laboratory technologists, three optometrists and one Health Information management graduates that formed part of the medical team at the camp.
