"He's a world-class player. He's the best goalkeeper in the world."

Jose Mourinho waxed lyrical about David de Gea following the Spaniard's stunning save during
Manchester United 1-0 Young Boys on Tuesday night.

United edged the game 1-0 thanks to Marouane Fellaini's 90th-minute winner, which meant they secured a place in the Champions League last 16.

But in the 70th minute, with the scores level and Young Boys looking dangerous, De Gea was called upon to produce an incredible save and keep United in the game.

A deflected shot from outside the box wrong-footed the Spaniard but he somehow scrambled across goal to claw the ball off the line.

De Gea had no right to reach the ball - but as Mourinho said after the game, this is the world's best goalkeeper we're talking about.

"We need the best goalkeeper in the world," said United's manager of De Gea. "You need also some other players who are the best in the world.

"In this is case, we have the best goalkeeper in the world and I know that he wants to stay. I know that his agent is happy to do what the player wants.

"I also know that the board wants him to stay, and hopefully, sooner or later, they arrive into a good conclusion."

It's a wonder where United would be this season without De Gea, let alone where they would have been over the past few seasons.
The 28-year-old has been nothing short of vital.

As a result Mourinho and United fans are desperate for him to sign a new contract, with his current deal due to expire next summer.

Manchester Evening News reported on Tuesday morning that De Gea is open to staying and now, according to the Evening Standard , he's actually spoken to United.

De Gea has told the Red Devils personally that he wants to sign a new contract on the one condition that he's made one of the club's highest-paid players.

A £300,000-per-week deal is what the Spain international supposedly desires, which chief executive Ed Woodward will surely have to agree to.

De Gea is undoubtedly United's best and most valuable player, so it only seems right that he's paid in the same region as Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez.

United fans can now sleep easy knowing De Gea actually wants to stay, but whether an agreement can be made is a whole 'nother story.
