The Lagos State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Prince Mohammed Momoh has assured Nigerians that corps members on ad hoc duties nationwide for election will again do the country proud in her drive to entrench democracy and good governance in the country.

Momoh disclosed during an interview with Daily Independent shortly after the swearing-in and declaration of the 2018 Batch C Stream 2 Orientation programme declared open by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode at the campground in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos.

Momoh disclosed that the corps members deployed to the state are ready to contribute to nation building through the election, saying that they will be non-partisan in the discharge of their assigned role.

“Corps members are good to go and are prepared to do Nigeria proud and contribute to nation building. As you are aware they are non-partisan and have expressed the willingness to contribute to nation building through the scheme that will engender growth of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

“They have been sensitized and INEC has done preliminary training for corps members on camp. Security is very important and it is a top priority of the Director-General. The Lagos state government has also assured that their security in the state is not negotiable.

“Let me also tell you that we are also working with the Commissioner of Police in Lagos and he has been helpful in ensuring that corps members are secured in the state. All strategies have been put in place with the robust relationship we have with the CP, DPOs in Lagos,” he added.

According to Momoh, about 98 per cent of the corps members are ready to be part of the elections, saying that NYSC as a member of the election security committee had INEC and police assurance that corps members are safe for the national call.

Governor Ambode, represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relationships, Mr. Oluseye Oladejo, charged them to take advantage of their posting outside their states origin as an opportunity to meet and appreciate people in other parts of the country they may not have the chance to meet without the national service.

Ambode urged them to cooperate with the State Coordinator and other camp officials to ensure maximum benefit is derived from all the available programmes put in place.

“Also develop a positive mental mindset that you are at home with the local community in your area of primary assignment. I assure you that your wellbeing and security to your lives and property is a priority to the government. We are happy to have you in our state as youth corps members and we expect you to leave Lagos State with fond memories at the end of the service year,” he said.
