Jigawa Deputy Gov. Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan, said the state government has constructed standard primary health centres in each of the 287 wards in the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.

Hassan, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Dutse on Friday, said the projects were in fulfillment of the “One Ward One Health Facility’’ campaign promise of the state All progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

According to the deputy governor, the projects will be handed over to the state government by the contractors in December.

“As at February, 257 units had already been completed, only 30 units of the projects were yet to be completed.

“Every single ward, depending on its size, will have a health facility run by a health attendant if it is a small ward and a medical doctor if it is a big town,” he said.

Hassan said the state government had committed over 15 per cent of its budget to the health sector since it took over in 2015.

“We have been committing over 15 per cent of our budget to the health sector since we took over and I want to inform you that our performance level on the 2018 budget is 96 Per cent.

“Jigawa is the number one state in the Northwest in the Federal Ministry of Health’s ‘Save One Million Lives initiative’ conceived two years ago.

“We are getting extra 3 million dollars from the World Bank to achieve our objectives,” he said.

Hassan said the state government was also committed to the completion of projects started by the previous administrations.

“We have inherited over N100 billion in projects from the previous administrations.

“For two years, we have been trying to complete these projects, some of which were signed in 2010 and 2011. We only started new projects in 2017.

“These old projects have direct bearing to the lives of the people. Therefore, they will be completed by the contractors that started them.

“We refused to bow to pressure from the opposition who claimed that we do not have new projects to show,” he said.

On the School Feeding Programme, the deputy governor said the state was feeding 722,000 primary four pupils to six pupils in the state.

He said 7,100 cooks were engaged to feed the pupils every school day.

Hassan noted that the programme was complimenting the Federal Governments feeding programme which catered for primary one to primary three pupils.
