Brigadier General Suleiman Kazaure, the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has cautioned corps members against active involvement in partisan politics while discharging their Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad-hoc assignments.

Kazaure, represented by Alhaji Habibu Kurawa, Director, General Services of NYSC, gave the warning on Wednesday while addressing Corps Members deployed in Yobe State for 2018 Batch “C” Orientation Course at the temporary orientation Camp in Potiskum town.

He also advised them to utilise the opportunities of service year to empower themselves towards becoming wealth creators in view of the SAED programme.

He said NYSC introduced the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme into the Orientation Course content to enable Corps Members become job creators and not job seekers.

He added that the era of over-dependence on government has gone, calling for more skilled and productive generation.

The NYSC boss said diligence, loyalty, patriotism and self-determination are key and essential ingredients that every potential successful corps member must attain.

Speaking further, he urged the Corps Members to add value to their host communities by providing their needs through development initiative projects.

“Don’t leave your host communities at the end of the service year without adding value to them. Try and leave good legacies and also remember to add value to yourselves as you continue your service year.

“I urge you to always wear your uniforms, don’t abuse your uniforms. Whenever you are wearing NYSC uniforms, put your partisan politics into your wallet, don’t use your uniform for political party campaigns; we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the INEC to participate in the election duties,” Kurawa said.

Mrs. Grace J. Adzer, the Yobe State Coordinator of NYSC, in her remarks revealed that malaria fever has been the major challenge in the camp “but we are on top of the situation; we have fumigated the entire compound while commending the corps members for the discipline and orderliness.

“They’re very obedient; the Camp Court has not tried anyone for committing any offence in the Camp.

Adzer told General Kazaure that a total of 1,368 Corps Members comprising 722 males and 646 Females were registered in the camp.
